Plumbing Tips for this summer in Portland

Summer is here, the sun’s out…well, semi-out, and your pipes can’t freeze and explode.  Your plumbing concerns are nonexistent…And so you think.  Reality hits, and summertime is when our water usage is at its highest level of the year making it the ideal time for all kinds of plumbing issues to arise. Here are some Portland Summer Plumbing Tips.

Portland Summer Plumbing Tips #1:  If you are experiencing water bubbling up in certain parts of your lawn or if your water pressure is unusually low over several days, it could be a sign of breakage. You might also notice your water bill has gone up or increases for no obvious reason.  If so, there may be a root intrusion, it behooves you to call All Pro.

Portland Summer Plumbing Tips #2: Make sure the kids or the in-laws are informed about what NOT to flush down the toilet. If the clogs are caused by foreign objects being thrown in the toilet or if the system is backed up, it is always wise to call one of our professionals at All Pro Plumbing.

Portland Summer Plumbing Tips #3:  More outdoor fun means more dirty clothes. Be sure to check your washing machine hoses for bulges, leaks or cracks and be sure to remove drier lint regularly. Also, move your machine at least four inches from the wall to prevent hose kinking and damage. Remember–washing machine hoses should be replaced approximately every three years. If you do experience a back up, you know who to call, All Pro your local Bro.

Portland Summer Plumbing Tips #4:  Be careful what you put down your kitchen disposal after your summer cookout. Most are not equipped to handle cornhusks, seeds, celery, banana peels and other fibrous or “stringy” foods. Some other items to stay away from are fats or cooking oils because they form clots in the pipes. Run water at full pressure for 15 seconds before and after you put anything down the disposal to flush it through. If you have a stinking disposal, try baking soda and NEVER put lemon peels or seeds down the disposal.

Portland Summer Plumbing Tips #5: One way to help lower your energy bill by as much as 10% each year is to turn down the temperature of your water heater.
