Signs Your Water Heater is “Kaputt”
Signs Your Water Heater is “Kaputt”
When to throw in the towel on your old water heater and invest in a new one. Here are a few tips:
1. If you notice moisture around your water, you may have a small leak or a fracture in the tank.
2. The tank may hit its expiration date when you here strange noises coming from the tank. As the water heater gets older there will be more and more sediment build up on the bottom of the tank. The hardening of the sediment can cause a banging or rumbling noise when the heater heats up. Eventually leading to cracks and holes developing in the tank.
3. If you notice rusty water coming from your water heater it is usually a sign that the internals of the water heater is rusty. The rust is also a good sign that the tank may begin to leak. However, the rust may also be due to galvanized piping if that’s the type of pipes you have. So you may try to partially drain the water heater to see if the rust coming out is consistent. Probably a good 5 gallons worth.
