History
The History of plumbing leads all the way back to ancient times. However, the History of the work “plumber,” stems from Ancient Rome, the Latin word plumbum which means lead. Lead was used for making pipes, conduits and baths. Later on in History, during the medieval times the word “plumber” was created. Stemming from the word “plumbarius,” which means an expert in lead. Therefore, we now have the word plumber…TAH-DAH.
Since we are on the subject of History, lets look at the History of toilets. The first “water closet” (toilet), was recorded around 4,000 years ago, with a wooden seat and a small reservoir of water. But that wasn’t too popular then, so it never really caught on until an Englishman named Alexander Cumming patent the flushing toilet in 1775. Inventing the S-shaped plumbing design that prevented sewer gases from entering back into the buildings.
