The first step in How to Detect a Leak in your Toilet is to remove the toilet tank cover (the rectangular lid located on the top of the tank).  Carefully set the lid aside and go into the pantry and find some food coloring (preferably a darker color), Kool-Aid works too!!!  Make sure you put enough color to see a difference.  Now wait for about 20-30 minutes without flushing the toilet to Detect a Leak in your Toilet.  Now, if you see color bleed into the toilet bowl that is a good indication that there is a leak.
